Julio Monteiro Martins gave such a gift to the world of readers and writers through his tireless work with Sagarana. He provided a place for literature, essays, poetry, and art to be available to and from people from many countries. I never met him, but I will miss his devotion to publishing a wide range of voices, and the artistry with which he composed the entire look and feel of the journal. My friends in California loved reading Sagarana, a unique, esteemed online journal. Julio was kind enough to publish two of my poems, translated beautifully into Italian by Pina Piccolo, and that allowed me to share his wonderful publication with an enthusiastic audience.
