I do not want to be
a breast poet.

I want my breasts to be sound and sub rosa,
taken for granted, not written about

and certainly not by me. My hands shake.
Someone sings about leaves in the wind.

My mother asks how I can do this
and still dance.

Yellow fluid leaves a stain
a nurse says will come out in the wash.

Another one stands behind me, on the left, watching,
she would like to put a hand on my head.

The spotlights dim, darkening
the room.

Dorit Weisman

Dorit Weisman, poeta, traduttrice e curatrice, è nata a Kfar-Saba (Israele) nel 1950 e vive a Gerusalemme. Tiene corsi di scrittura creativa, conferenze e lezioni sulla poesia e cura programmi poetici per la televisione israeliana (channel 98).
Nel 2005 ha ottenuto l’Acum Prize for poetry per il suo manoscritto, Where Did you Meet the Cancer? (Dove hai incontrato il cancro?); ha ottenuto il premio del Primo Ministro per gli scrittori israeliani nel 2003 e il Yehuda Amichai Prize for Poetry pure nel 2003. Weisman ha vinto anche i seguenti prestigiosi premi: il Tchernikhovski Prize of the Writer’s Guild (1998), il Ben-Gurion University Prize for Literature (1999), il premio della Olschwung Foundation e il Jerusalem Prize for Literature (1998).
Ha publicato 9 volumi di poesia, 1 di prosa, 2 antologia di protesta e ha girato un film sulla poesia (“Poetry Ltd.”, 2011).
Negli anni dal 2002 al 2012 Weisman è stata membro del Ketovet group che dirige il Poetry Place, un centro per laboratori e letture di poesia a Gerusalemme.
